One of our most exciting design opportunities arrived when LHDI was invited by Jamaica’s National Housing Trust to lead the master planning and conceptual design effort for Jamaica Lifestyle Villages. Teaming up with special partners NHT, DBJ, PriceWaterHouseCoopers, MODE Architects, Marvin D. Goodman & Associates, offered us an enormous opportunity to lead and participate in such a worthwhile initiative.

The Jamaica Lifestyle Villages concept was proposed as a vehicle to help foster the Retirement Tourism Industry in Jamaica. In essence, a significant market was identified that included the Jamaican Diaspora as well as Foreign Nationals from several countries who hoped to retire to the beauty and exceptional climate of Jamaica. Certain distinct sites were identified for development of several types of residences and amenities. In all, LHDI lead the Master Planning of 6 large project sites; ranging in size from relatively small to very large (Barrett Hall, 429 acres).

LHDI was also involved in the design of specific housing unit types, products ranging from Assisted Living Homes, through to Independent Living, and Skilled Nursing Facilities, as well as all Amenities required to support the residences.

LHDI also participated in the branding and marketing efforts to launch Jamaica Lifestyle Villages; helping create logos, project jingles, and attending meetings with potential future users. A very rewarding experience for a terrific initiative created by the Development Bank of Jamaica.
